Jum’ah means Friday in Arabic which is the name of the day. This is derived from Jama’at which means ‘to gather’. Practically, the term referred to the congregation of people for the Friday prayer. It is obligatory (farz) for Muslims on every Friday in place of Zohar prayer. Moreover, sermons are given to educate the people regarding worldly affairs and the hereafter at every Friday before this prayer. On this day and for this pray, the Muslims are recommended to take bath (ghusl), clean their teeth using the Miswak or otherwise, wear out clean clothes (which a person could afford) and wear perfume before coming to the Mosque. When the call for prayer is given, the Muslims are instructed to abandon all businesses and come to the mosque for prayer.
