Jihad (جھاد)

It refers to sacred fighting in the way of Allah. Its literal meaning is to try, to attempt or to put an effort. So, it implies to all those struggles that are made to counter the conspiracies and strategies of the disbelievers, to exalt the word of Allah and to establish the Islamic system of life, whether by propagating the message of Allah in the initial stage like by writing the books which is an important way of fighting at ideological level or by fighting in the final stage of the struggle with sword, guns, bombs etc. That is why, scholars of Islam explain sub-categories of this umbrella term i.e., Jihad bil Qalam (with pen), Jihad bil Lisan (with tongue), Jihad bil Maal (with money), Jihad bil Nafs (with self) etc.
