Imam (امام pl. Aaima: آئمہ)

This term is generally used for a scholarly person who leads the congregational prayer. Additionally, this is also used for those outstanding personalities who have done a great work in their respective fields for the sake of Islam like Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Shafa’i in the field of Islamic Jurisprudence, Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim in the field of hadith etc.
